Barcelona metro line 9

SENER has been involved throughout the entire lifecycle of this project which has established a new standard for other metro lines in the world.
SENER has been a key partner of Barcelona metro over the past decade, and was selected to perform construction management (electrical systems) and systems integration functions for Barcelona metro line 9. Line 9 will have 52 stations and will be 47.8 km long.
Once the civil works are finished, this line will be the longest automated metro line in Europe, covering five municipalities of Barcelona metropolitan area and an estimated demand of 165 million travelers per year in 2020. The new line will cross Barcelona and connect Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet with l’Hospitalet and el Prat de Llobregat, providing service to areas with great demand, and which are currently without a public railway transport connection.
Among the main technical aspects, it is important to highlight that this is:
- A ‘Driverless’ system (UTO), with platform doors in all stations.
- CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) Signaling System (ATC wireless).
- High capacity elevators synchronized with the arrival of trains.
- Wireless real time video broadcast.
- Main IP communication network.
- Tetra communications network and global centralized integration of operation.
- Centralized control management center.
SENER has been a key partner of Barcelona metro Line 9 since 2000, working in all stages (planning, conceptual, design, tendering stage, construction, start-up, testing and commissioning) for the development of this line.
